Nabumetone is used to reduce pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis.This drug is called a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
How to use nabumetone
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before starting nabumetone and each time you get a refill.If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters).Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking the medicine.To prevent an upset stomach, take it with food, milk, or an antacid.The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.To minimize the risk of side effects (such as stomach bleeding) use this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.For chronic conditions such as arthritis, continue to take as directed by your doctor. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor or pharmacist.In some conditions (such as arthritis), it may take up to 2 weeks to notice the full benefit when taking this medication regularly.
Side Effects
Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, gas, dizziness, drowsiness, or headache may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist right away.Remember, this medicine was prescribed because your doctor thought the benefits to you outweighed the risk of side effects.Many people who use this drug do not have serious side effects.This drug may raise your blood pressure.Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high.Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: hearing changes (such as ringing in the ears), mental/mood changes, difficulty/pain swallowing, symptoms of heart failure (such as swollen ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, weight abnormal/sudden increase).Get medical help right away if any of the following rare but very serious side effects occur:signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), unexplained stiff neck.This drug can rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease.If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking nabumetone and consult your doctor or pharmacist right away: incessant nausea/vomiting, dark urine, severe stomach/abdominal pain, eyes or yellowing of the skin.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: fever, swollen lymph nodes, rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
Precautions
Before taking nabumetone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to aspirin or other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib); or if you have any other allergies.This product may contain inactive ingredients that may cause allergic reactions or other problems. Ask your pharmacist for more details.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: asthma (including a history of worsening breathing after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs), bleeding or clotting problems, growths in the nose ( nasal polyps), heart disease (such as previous heart attack), high blood pressure, liver disease, stroke, stomach/intestinal/esophageal problems (such as bleeding, ulcers, recurrent heartburn).Kidney problems sometimes occur with NSAID medicines, including nabumetone.Problems are more likely if you are dehydrated, have heart failure or kidney disease, are older, or if you take certain medicines.Drink plenty of fluids as directed by your doctor to prevent dehydration and tell your doctor right away if your urine output changes.This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana (marijuana) can make you more dizzy or drowsy.Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires alertness until you can do so safely.
If you use marijuana (marijuana), talk to your doctor.This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily alcohol consumption and smoking, especially when combined with this drug, may increase your risk of stomach bleeding.Limit alcohol consumption and quit smoking.Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.This medication may make you more sensitive to sunlight. Limit time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or if you develop blisters/redness on your skin.Older adults may be at greater risk for stomach/intestinal bleeding, kidney problems, heart attack, and stroke while using this drug.Before using this drug, women of childbearing age should discuss its benefits and risks with their doctor.Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.This drug may harm an unborn baby and cause problems with normal labor/delivery.From 20 weeks until delivery, not recommended during pregnancy.If your doctor decides that you need to use this drug between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, you should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.This medication should not be used after 30 weeks of pregnancy.
