35g (0.42mol) of thiophene and 50ml of benzene were mixed, and 75g (0.35mol) of yellow mercury oxide and 109g (0.43mol) of iodine were added alternately under stirring and cooling. Filter, wash the filter residue with ether. Combine the washing filtrates, wash with dilute sodium thiosulfate solution to remove excess iodine, distill off ether and benzene after drying with anhydrous calcium chloride, and distill under reduced pressure to collect fractions at 73°C (2.0kPa) to obtain 63-66g 2 -Iodothiophene. The yield is 72-75%.
